What Does Positive Home Pregnancy Test Report After A Medical Abortion Indicate?

Hi Doctor, I had medical abortion 5 weeks ago I bled a little for that and never again. I took a pregnancy test 3 time it still came positive with 1 line faint, today both lines are faint

Hi,

Positive pregnancy test implies the presence of circulation Beta-HCG hormone in the blood. After a miscarriage or abortion, it can take from few days to weeks for HCG hormone to come back to normal. This depends mostly on the HCG hormone level present in your body at the time of pregnancy termination. Since it has been 5 weeks post the medical abortion, there are few possibilities to be considered in your case -The HCG hormone level is still coming down

-You have got pregnant again after the last abortion. You will require serial blood test to assess for beta-HCG levels. If the levels are going down then there is nothing to be worried. If the levels are coming up, the possibility of pregnancy should be considered. If pregnancy is still ruled out, then more serious conditions like tumor arising from placenta (choriocarcinoma) should be ruled out. So, please be advised to follow up with your Obgyn for necessary evaluation as soon as possible.
