What Does Popping Sound In Head While Lifting Weights Indicate?

My son heard a popping sound in his head while lifting weights and then some mild pain afterward. He complained of his left temple/forehead over the eye having some pain which lasted approx. 20mins or so. What do you think this could be attributed to?

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your son's symptoms seem to be related to an effort headache.

This is a normal type of headache, which can occur during straining physical activity.

If this situation is repeated, I would recommend consulting with a neurologist for a careful physical exam and a brain MRI scan to exclude possible intracranial vessel malformation.

Meanwhile, I would recommend a close monitoring of his blood pressure. High blood pressure could also be related to this type of headache.

Hope to have been helpful!
Best wishes,
Dr. Aida
