What Does Pap Smear Test Signify?

I had a pap smear on Thursday. the doctor office called me on Saturday and said I needed to be back in his office at 9am on Tuesday, because they are closed on Monday. I ask the lady what was wrong, and she said that he wanted to see me about my papsmear.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Pap test is a test in which the cells of the cervix are sampled using a spatula.
These cells are fixed and stained with Pap stain (and thus the name Pap test).
These cells are studies to look for any cancerous change in the cells of the cervix.
Besides cancer other lesions like infection by various organisms and cancers of other organs like endometrium, fallopian tubes and ovaries can also be picked up if the cells are abundant.
In case any suspicious cells are detected, the next step is to either get a repeat pap test or to get a cervical biopsy.
Your doctor may have picked up any of these lesions, thus he/she wants to see you.

Thanks and take care
