What Does Pap Smear Test As Predominance Of Cocoobacili In Vaginal Flora Suggest?

Hi, I would like to inquire regarding bacterial infection (predominance of coccobacilli with shift in vaginal flora). That was the result of my pap smear a week ago. The comments/recommendations: INFLAMMATION. I'd like to understand more about it and what treatment should I get? Is it just benign or I should worry a lot? Hoping to get response from you. THANK YOU.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
The interpretation of Pap test is as follows:
Pap test is done to detect premalignant and malignant lesions of cervix.
The normal flora of the reproductive tract consists of lactobacillus bacteria.
This is harmless bacteria and it maintains the acidic pH of the vaginal tract.
Acidic pH of the vaginal tract prevents growth of pathogens in the vagina.
When the pH of the vaginal tract is increased, there is suppression of lactobacillus and growth of coccobacillus.
This condition is called 'shift in vaginal flora'.
Antibiotic therapy is required to treat the infection.

Thanks and take care
