What Does Pain Behind The Waist On The Right Side Indicate?

I am a 69 yr old male experiencing pain on the right side back (at waist). Pain increases as I walk, especially upstairs. Additionally, I do experience belly bloating with gas after meals. My bowel movements are regular but, I do experience some discomfort when wiping.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Pain in the back maybe due to back muscles spasm or infection of kidney or renal stone or radiculopathy or lumbar spondylosis etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Avoid weight lifting and climbing a staircase. Use simple Paracetamol thrice a day. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
