What Does My MRI Report Indicate?

i have the following results after an MRI done for Lower Back Pain:
Mild Scoliotic Deformity with sacralization of L5 vertebra.
Degenerative disc disease at D12-L1 and L4-L5 level.
Early diffuse disc prolapse at L4-L5 level, causing effacement of neural foramina and compression of existing nerve root.
What does all this men in simple English. I have been undergoing PT since the last 2 weeks and the pain has reduced; but not gone completely. I can still not walk properly. How long will I take to gain strength and resistance in my back and be normal like earlier days?

Hello
Thanks for writing to us

According to MRI report you have degenerative disc disease of dorso-lumbar spine.
Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis which allows herniation of disc.

1.At L4-5 level, there is early diffuse disc bulge causing effacement of neural foramen and compression of exiting nerve roots.

2.Degenerative disc disease noted at D12-L1 and L4-L5 level.

3.Mild scoliotic Deformity noted in spine with sacralization of L5 vertebra.

Treatment for degenerative lumbar disease includes physiotherapy or surgery.
Effectiveness of both modalities are same. So,physiotherpay should be tried first. It causes strengthening of Para spinal muscles and it prevents further changes.
You need physiotherapy for long time.
Surgery should be the last option.
There are also medicines like capsule pregabalin available for pain relief.
Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurosurgeon.
Get well soon.

Take Care
