What Does Mucus In Stool Indicate?

Dear Sir;

At first, I want to express my thankfulness for your help.

My father is 58 years old.

8 years ago, my father got colon cancer. He became cured by Chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Now, he had mucus in stool and passing mucus from rectum . He doubted that this symptom is due
to other reasons than cancer.
If it is possible for you , please give me your email to send you the Blood test and colonoscopy .
I am looking forward to hearing from you that what is you diagnosis.
Thank you very much in advance.
Best Regards
Rafatnia

Congratulations that your father is cured of colon cancer only with chemo & radio therapy. Right diagnosis, right treatment at the right timing.
For mucus in stools, it indicates that there is some infection or ulcer that is causing irritation to the inner wall of the colon and thereby producing lots of defensive mechanism in the form of Mucus.
Please get a stools test and if required a colonoscopy done to get to the perfect diagnosis and then the treatment would be easy and scientific rather than just shooting in the dark.
Contact your colorectal surgeon for the same and he will help you for sure.
take care
wish you good health

Gastroenterologist Dr. Dr Samir Patil's  Response
Hello,
Mucus in stools need not be due to recurrence. But as he was treated 8 years a go his screening colonoscopy is already overdue. I would suggest to get an appointment of a screening colonoscopy. Before treating for the mucus we need to rule out recurrance
Hope this helps
