He recently had a MRI and MRA done as follow up to the last surgery. My question is on his report it states, High T2/FLAIR and iso-high T1 signal seen within the left petrous apex without associated restricted diffusion. can you please shed some light on this for me. He is presently asymptomatic, occaisionaly complaining of a pain in his forehead area, similar to a headache.

Hi,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.
On MRI, we have different sequences called T1/T2/FLAIR etc. Each tissue has a specific appearance on each sequence so we use different sequences to characterize a tissue. In your son's case, there is High T2 and iso-high T1 signal. This appearance is seen in Fat/bleed more commonly. As it is within the bone (petrous apex) it has to be fat. Fat within the bone has no clinical significance and just states that there is normal yellow bone marrow. This has no relation to the occasional headache. Please don't worry about it. It has nor relation to moyamoya disease as well.
Hope it sorts your problem.
