What Does Flat T Wave And Inverted On Stress Test Mean?

My mothers T Wave was flat and inverted on her stress test. They are thinking she may have blockage and will be doing a scan of her heart. They said they won t do anything unless there is 70 percent blockage. Is this typical? My mom is a very young 75, eats very healthy and walks five miles every day.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

A flat T wave which is inverted on stress might be due to reduced blood flow through the coronaries. This is an expected result in those prone to heart disease. A block less than 50 percent is treated by lifestyle improvement and medications. from 51 to 70 percent, it is treated with medications of more than one type, More than 70 percent requires opening the blocks with angioplasty or doing coronary bypass graft surgery. She must continue doing walks as long she is not feeling tired. Any chest pain in the next few days must be brought to the attention of your doctors. A heart scan might be be planned as early possible and then treated.
