Hello, and I hope i can help you today.
I hope I can help you understand your
ultrasound report by providing you with some definitions.
An ANTEVERTED
UTERUS is when your uterus is curved towards the front (meaning tilted towards your stomach). This is a normal finding in 80 percent of women. 20 percent of women have a uterus that is tilted towards their back, called retroverted. It is a way of describing the uterus, like being right-or-left-handed, and is not a condition or anything abnormal.
PROLIFERATIVE ENDOMETRIUM refers to the appearance of the uterine lining before ovulation occurs in normal, healthy women. The uterine lining is described as secretory endometrium in women who have already ovulated for the month.
POLYCYSTIC OVARIES refer to the fact that the ultrasound shows multiple unovulated eggs called FOLLICILES (those are the SUBCAPSULAR follicles described, meaning they are under the outer capsule of the ovary)
Polycystic ovaries can be found in 20 percent of normal women but they can also reflect ovaries that do not consistently ovulate every month.
If you are having this ultrasound to evaluate
irregular periods or
infertility, you may not be ovulating every month and your doctor may suggest treatment.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that this information was helpful.
Best wishes,
Dr. Brown
