What Does A Small Painful Lump On The Intergluteal Cleft Area Indicate?

My son has a small lump on the left side of his intergluteal cleft area that is very painful to the touch. It does not hurt when he is standing up only when he sits or lays on his back or if light pessure is applied to the area. It seems more swollen by the end of the day after he returns from school. Of course he has been sitting at the desks in class pretty much all day. There is no skin dimpling only slight redness when inflamed.Could it be an infected cyst

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi...I feel that it is a boil or an abscess which is localized there. He might have a fever too. As of now it will require an antibiotic therapy. I would prefer to use either Amoxycillin Clavulenate or Clindamycin. If it doesn't settle then he might require an incision and drainage. These antibiotics are prescription drugs. I suggest you consult your pediatrician regarding this.
