What Does A Round Dark Spot At The Outer Edge Of Areola Indicate?
I just noticed a new dark spot at the outer edge of my areola. It is round, flat and mole-like, about the size of a pencil eraser. It is painless and there is no hardness in the area. Could this be a symptom of breast cancer? I am 44 years old... 5'4... No health problems except restless leg syndrome... The only relatives I know of who had breast cancer were one aunt out of 11 aunts, plus 3 great-aunts.
Hi, I understand your concern. If this is a new spot, check if it has occurred after there was any trauma or any scratching in the area. The absence of pain and lump decrease the chance of a malignancy.
Even then, as you do have a positive family history of breast cancer and it is in multiple generations, it is wise to get a biopsy done from the spot. This will clarify the nature of the spot. Another investigation is mammography, but a biopsy is more advisable in your case as the spot is visible and also it is gold standard in confirming the diagnosis.
Do not worry and get it examined at the earliest.
