Your PCV is also high which means red cell mass is high. 2. Polycythemia most commonly seen in individuals residing at a higher altitude due to low oxygen concentration. This is a compensatory mechanism. Not to worry if you are in a high altitude. 3. However it is important to rule out other causes like tumors, myeloproliferative disorders. 4. Since it can increase the viscosity of blood and cause thrombosis (clot formation) and complications arising out of this it is necessary to discuss with your consulting doctor for appropriate medications to maintain the count in normal range.
