What Does RBC Count- 6.11 (normal Range 4.5-5.99) Indicate?

I have no symptoms and am quite healthy. I get my blood tests done every 6 months. My reports have always showed haemoglobin the the range of 12.6 to 13.9. My WBC is 7.93 and my monocytes are 10% (normal 1-10%). RBC is 6.11 and normal range is 4.5 - 5.99. MCV is 62 and MCH is 20.6. Just a bit worried if this is an indication of a serious condition.

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your clinical history and query, my opinion is as follows:
1. RBC count of 6.11 is quite high and is indicative of polycythemia. Your PCV is also high which means red cell mass is high.
2. Polycythemia most commonly seen in individuals residing at a higher altitude due to low oxygen concentration. This is a compensatory mechanism. Not to worry if you are in a high altitude.
3. However it is important to rule out other causes like tumors, myeloproliferative disorders.
4. Since it can increase the viscosity of blood and cause thrombosis (clot formation) and complications arising out of this it is necessary to discuss with your consulting doctor for appropriate medications to maintain the count in normal range.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
