What Does HPF Mean In The Process Of Semen Analysis?
Hi doc i Just got the result spermatology diagnosis of my husband and the result is found 1-2 sperm in all HPF. What does hpf mean? And last year we have checked the sperm and the result was found 1 sperm motile in a few side. So is there any progress or still the same? Thanks
HPF stands for high power field. It indicates very low sperm count and motility during microscopy. Low sperm count and low motility need proper clinical evaluation and investigations.
Your husband may need investigations like routine hemogram, random blood sugar, ultrasound of scrotum.
It is important to exclude any surgical reasons for low sperm count and motility.Ultrasound and clinical examination is helpful. Hormone assay can be done if needed.
He should avoid tight undergarments. He should increase his physical activity and do exercise. Take nutritious diet and antioxidants.
If findings persists then further investigations like FNAC/Biopsy of testis can be done.
Take Care Dr.Indu Bhushan
