What Do This Test Result From HbA1c And FBG Indicate?

Dear Doctor,I recently had a HbA1c test and the result was 8.6%. I m female, 45 years old and overweight. After 11 days I had a FBG and 2hpp test. The FBG result was 84 and the 2hpp was 80.I m confused - does this mean I have diabetes considering my FBG and 2hpp were in the normal range? Could the high HbA1c be the result of something other than diabetes?Thank you for your help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

Although your current values are normal, the hbA1c predicts the control of blood sugar in the past. And this level clearly indicates a poorly controlled blood glucose level indicating diabetes and requiring correction. Do not get confused. But I would still recommend repeat tests for the next few days just for confirmation.

Best wishes.
