What Do Tenderness And Bruising On The Right Hand Indicate?

I had an EDG done 2 weeks ago in preparation for Bariatric surgery. The first week after I noticed some bruising and tenderness on my right hand where the anesthesia was placed. This week I have noticed a migration of the bruise to my wrist and the area has become swollen and painful. Tonight I am experiencing shooting pains up the arm. I am planning on going to the doctor first thing in the morning. Is what I am experiencing common?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per my clinical experience, the issue seems to be thrombo phlebitis of the vein puncture site during anesthesia.

This is not normal, ice application at the site will give best relief with follow up with your doc for further medicine support.

Feel free to post further doubts.

Thank you.
