What Do Soreness, Swelling And Bruising On Left Hip With Stabbing Pain Suggest?

Right above my left hip on my back it is quite sore with waves of a stabbing pain. It s usually just uncomfortable but then i get those quick stabbing pains all day today. I thought maybe kidney infection? Then i realized that it is swollen and my husband says that it looks slightly bruised. What s going on? Should i be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Soreness, swelling and bruising on the left hip along with stabbing pain is indicative of sciatica, muscle strain, pinched nerve, OA, bursitis, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), kidney stone, etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get blood tests, urinalysis and imaging tests done to detect the pathology causing the discomfort.

You will be accordingly treated. In the meantime, you can take NSAIDS, Naproxen, one SOS for relief and avoid activities that aggravate your hip pain. Take rest, ice pack compression for relief.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
