What Do Red Spots On The Hands And Wrists Indicate?

I am a 63 year old white female with fibrmyalgia and osteo arthritis and osteoporosis. Recently, I have been getting dark blood colored spots lesions primarily on my hands, wrists and lower arm. My Dad had RA, and these places look like his skin did from taking the Prednisone all the time. They sometimes occur when I get hit (like a bruise) but other times, they appear for no reason. I had someone tell me she had the same thing, and her doc told her it was connective tissue disease. If I happen to break the skin, it does bleed and looks awful. What could it be?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I have gone through your complaints and it seems to be ecchymotic patches. I would recommend you to get your complete blood count, coagulation studies, bleeding time and clotting time to rule out any internal bleeding tendency.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
