What Do Recurrent Episodes Of Vomiting And Blackouts In A Child Suggest?
my 5 year old grand daughter is having her third eposodic vomiting . this summer she has been a swimmer in an indoor pool and a outdoor public pool. has 3 meals a day. first started --fainted at my house and threw up. 3 days later fainted in dr office. had 6 hour eeg--no nuero problems. she just threw up again, twice. no temp. pain near belly button. what could this be? seems to throw up every month. no conclusion of why.
As per my clinical experience, the intermittent episodes of vomiting and black out in a child may be of concern when EEG and other possibilities are being ruled out. When the intestine infection component is not present (which will not pause episodic events), the most striking possibility would be underlying panic disorder of the pool events when she may have aspirated some fluid and that event may have been repeatedly flashing back in her mind.
However, a detailed case history and counselling with the kid is of paramount importance to guide further precisely.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
