What Do Green Bumps In Vagina Indicate?

I am a 23 year old female and am sexually active. I had sex with this guy a week ago and he took the condom off. It s been about a week and I noticed I had two greenish looking bumps on my vagina, on the lip. And one on the inside of my vagina at the top. Since I shave, I thought it to be an ingrown hair so I picked at the two on the lip of my vagina. When they popped it was a watery, clear pus that came out but no hair. I left the one inside alone to see what would happen to it and today I rubbed a q tip on it to see if it was hard. When I did it just wiped away. It isn t sore but the one s I picked at are. I m worried that it could be herpes. I have an appointment in a week and can get tested, but I need an opinion on what all it could be...please help

Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

I am also concerned about the timing of the appearance of the bumps in relation to your unprotected encounter. Herpes first appear a blisters with a clear center and turn greenish and painful once the blister ruptures. They are painful and usually appear in a week or two after exposure.

If you have any new bumps that appear, do not pop them as the fluid inside contains the virus and is useful for a viral culture to make a diagnosis. The blood test for exposure to herpes takes 6 weeks to become positive after infection so the blood test at this stage may not yet be positive.

Unfortunately there is no way to know for sure what the bumps are without a visual examination. If the area is sore and painful, soak your vagina in warm water for 20 minutes every day, stop shaving the area where the bumps are and do not continue sexual activity until you can get examined by a doctor. You can apply antibiotic ointment to the bumps you picked on to prevent infection.

I hope you get an answer soon and a diagnosis. I urge you to try to use condoms all the time with new partners until they can tell you for certain they have been tested for STD's and are not putting you at risk.

I hope my advice was helpful and that I adequately answered your question today. Best wishes, Dr. Brown
