What Do Bony Protrusions On The Fingers Indicate?

i have type 2 diabetes, male age 73, past 6 mos i ve noticed calcium like nodules under the thumb of my left hand and middle finger, could this be the start of osteoarthritis? When I press on the bony nodule on my thumb just above my thumbnail there s a little discomfort.
