What Could Itchy Hand And Feet With Swelling In Tongue And Mouth Suggest?

Hi I went to A & E at 3am this morning with what started as itchy hands and feet, then body & face went bright red , then I started swelling up, I had all these symptoms a couple of months ago but thought it was something I'd eaten, however this time my tongue, mouth & lips also swelled , the common factor in both cases was omeprazole which my Partner has prescribed and which I took on both occasions. Why did I react to this when I have never had any previous allergies.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain the symptoms of itchy hands and feet along with redness or flushing of face and swelling or hives along with allergic angioedema seems to be due to Allergic reaction as such symptoms are most common presentation of allergic reaction or anaphylaxis..
In case if on both occasions when the symptoms appeared you have taken Omeprazole the symptoms seems to be due to allergic reaction to Omeprazole that is a Proton Pump Inhibitor..

I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and also advise allergic tests like RAST test, Patch test, food challenge test to rule out the exact cause of the problem and treat you accordingly..

As of now you can take anti allergics like Allegra or benadryl..
The best way to prevent an allergic attack is to avoid exposure to allergen and in case if it is something that you come in contact with frequently you can be advised Immunotherapy to reduce the severity of allergy symptoms..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
