What Could Itching, Irritation And Redness In The Area Of Stitches On Leg Indicate?

i had a spot removed from my lower left leg & it took 7 stitches i was instructed to apply neosporin or any antibiotic ointment daily & cover w/ bandaid it was red & a little swollen at first but its been getting worse i have been applying the ointment 2x a day & its been 2 weeks & is now extremely red & itchy & irritated my doctor said its an allergy to the ointment & i was told to get cortizone 10 & no longer cover it. im concerned that its an infection or mersa or something more than just an allergic reaction am i over reacting?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concern. Is the wound offensive, pus filled? If not then it is well responding to the antibiotic and no mersa. You may have suffered from allergic to Bandaid (its chemical coating or gum it is having to stick). The inflammation and redness may be due to the above said allergy. You start cortizone or any other steroid and keep it open. It will heal soon.
