What Could Hard, Swollen Occipital Lymph Node Of Left Side Indicate?

I m a 19 year old female, average size, history of cancer in the family. I have a swollen occipital lymph node on the left side. It was about the size of a pen tip about 8 years ago. Doctor at the time told my mother I was just sick and gave me something to help. Nothing changed but my parents just ignored my whinning until now. I noticed about 6 months ago that it is now the size of a bean. It s pretty solid and kind of sore after being touched and pressed on. I started taking note of any weird symptoms that popped up and so far there is: Extremely itchy skin, sometimes in the form of bloody looking hives, ALL over my body. Random fevers, low grade, each only lasting between a few hours to a day. Loss of appetite, no significant weight loss, and occasional night sweats. I have a fear that it might be lymphoma. I m going to the doctor tomorrow but I never feel like people are hearing me. Doctors or Parents. Is there a way to get my point/fear across stronger? How would you go across addressing my symptoms.

Hello,

Your symptoms do not seem to be related to this lymph node. Anyway, I recommend consulting with your doctor and performing some tests:

- complete blood count, PCR, ESR for inflammation
- allergy tests
- thyroid hormone levels.

A node biopsy may help determine its nature. You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka
