My mother is 95. She has A Fiy and uncontrolled diabetes. She is in a nursing home and basically bed ridden. Her nutrition is very poor (barely eats at all) .She now has gangrene and several severe sores on her backside. She is ready to die. They want to amputate her leg below/above the knee. I understand that if they do not she will die. In order to make a decision I need to know if I decide against amputation will they be able to control the pain and make her relatively comfortable until she dies. I envision amputating and then her getting gangrene somewhere else and putting her trhough the same thing again. I can t get a straight answer for any of her doctors. Thank you.
Hello, You have to get the amputation done to tackle gangrene. Gangrene occurred because of poor circulation in foot and uncontrolled diabetes. Once the amputation is done and diabetes is properly controlled, she won't develop gangrene again. At the moment, amputation is must. Thanks
