What Could Cause Tonsil Stones?

I'm a 31 year old female non smoker, and never used alcohol nor any form of drug. I have battled tonsil stones, pus, and tonsillitis for about 10 years. I cannot stand having a tonsil stone and dig them out whenever possible. Sometimes one will fall out, or I'll be able to taste one that I cannot see. I also have a chronically enlarged right tonsil, which is also the one with typical tonsil stones, that now has pus on it. I've taken a Zpack, but the pus is still there aroud the side and very bottom of tonsil. What's on bottom "could" be a stone as I can remove it, but the pus on the side will not scrape off. What should I do? THere is no pain, but I do also have post nasal drip issues and runny nose. What is all of this? COuld it be allergies even?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain swollen tonsils along with runny nose and post nasal drip are signs of viral throat infection causing tonsillitis, sore throat and runny nose and post nasal drip..
Pu s pockets can be due to secondary bacterial infection along with viral throat infection and can be treated with antibiotics.
It can be treated well by taking antibiotics like Azithromycin, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine, warm saline gargles, steam inhalations and using decongestant nasal sprays..

The other part of question is that if you have tonsil stones that are calcified structures caused by calcification of food debris and they serve as a potent cause for causing tonsillits and throat infection..
You should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and if any of the tonsil stones are not being removed by you he/she can remove it..
If you have a chronically inflamed tonsil it can be due to tonsil stones and if there is recurring formations and the swelling does not reduce or it recurrs removal of Tonsils or Tonsillectomy is a option for permanent relief..
You can reduce the formation of tonsils by reducing intake of dairy products as they are high in calcium, always gargle with warm saline water or atleast normal water after meals..
Drink plenty of water and chew sugar free chewing gums as they will promote saliva flow and reduce debris deposition..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
