What Could Cause The Frequent Urge To Urinate In An Elderly Person After A Knee Replacement Surgery?

I am a male, 74 years old And recently had knee replacement surgery, one week ago. I have sudden increase in the number of times I have to urinate. Sometimes more than once in an hours time, at least every hour and during the night I get up at least six times. The urge comes on quickly and I barely make it to the bathroom. I am taking Oxycodone/Acetaminophen, 325 mg, Asprin, 81 mg and Celecobix 200 mg. , Fouoxetine 20 mg, Simvastin 80 mg, Finasteride .5 mg. I had been taking Testosterone but have not taken it for two weeks. Can any of these medications be causing this sudden change?

Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using Ask a Doctor. None of the medications you listed would be expected to cause these symptoms. However, if they put a foley catheter in you bladder for the surgery, you may be having some urethral irritation or even a bladder infection. I would suggest seeing your doctor to get your urine looked at to check for this, so that you can get started on antibiotics if you need them.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any questions about any of that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
