What Could Cause Pain In Lower Back, Thigh, Knee And Left Hip When Passing Stools?

I have lower back pain and pain down my left thigh to the knee and around my left hip - and it seems to be related to bowel movements. When I try to go to the bathroom. the muscle on either of my spine seem to hurt when I try to push. I am going to physio, the MRI did not show much - what can I do. Coffee seems to take edge off.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of lower back ache and pain down the left thigh to the knee and around left hip, seems to be related to the bowel movements - the muscles on either sides of spine get hurt on passing bowel movement, MRI did not show anything to worry about, going to Physiotherapist, coffee seems to take edge off.
Your symptoms are akin to sciatica and although the MRI is nor showing much, you may still get the pains due to radiculopathy. In this condition the muscles when go into spasm causes nerve entrapment deep within which are supplying the area of affection.
Hence I would advise you the following:
Consult a Neurosurgeon or Orthopedic Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination and advise for the Physiotherapist to have a proper exercises to reduce the muscle spasm and equalize the muscles on both the sides.
Also needed are:
Take stool softener to have smooth passage of motion so that the muscles do not go into spasm
Take muscle relaxants.
Warm water bath
Relaxation techniques.
Avoid all the foods and beverages that enhance your problems.
