General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your son having hiatus hernia for 22 years, operations failed to give relief, now has pains in his arms, shoulders, has bloated stomach, has to move his stomach to bring up wind, has pounding head like heart beats..
The causes are not related to failed hiatus hernia surgeries.
The causes can be due to the following:
Pain in the arms and shoulders can be due to cervical spondilitis.
The bloating can be due to intestinal obstruction secondary to previous surgeries for hiatus hernia,
I would advise him the following:
Clinical evaluation and Examination by a General Surgeon to get a clinical diagnosis and to advise you the investigations which may be :
X-ray of the abdomen in standing position.
MRI of the cervical spine.
CT scan of the abdomen with contrast to know the reasons for the bloating and so on.
Once diagnosed the treatment may be conservative and if the conservative treatment fails only surgery may give him the results, obviously as per the clinical picture.
Till then have proper diet, less anxiety and control of anxiety - this helps to a large extent.
