What Could Cause Depression?

Hello, my brother is taking eltroxin since 15 years. Now he has the problems such as behaving abnormally(sometimes), thinking too much, being in his own mood, sweating, depressed etc..he also take cigrattes since 1 year. At the begging of that year he used to take cigrattes very few but since 6 month he is taking at least 2 a day.what may be the cause of his above problems? Can anyone please suggest me?

Thanks for writing in.

When your brother is taking eltroxin for last 15 years, he is a diagnosed case of hypothyroidism. Hypothyroid states might lead to depression, and if the dose of eltroxin is not adequate, the thyroid problem might just persist.

Hence, it is advisable to have his thyroid profile done at the earliest. Also, controlling cigarette smoking should be considered in collaboration with a psychiatrist.
