Hello,
If you happen to have regular 28-30 day cycles all through, this alteration in the menstrual pattern in the absence of any pregnancy could mean a hormonal imbalance resulting in a breakthrough bleeding. This can happen when there are sudden weight disturbances, stress, infections, use of certain medications, hormonal disorders like polycystic ovaries etc. Please see a specialist for a clinical evaluation and also get a trans-vaginal sonogram, a pap smear and urinalysis to clarify the situation. Hope this helps.
