What Could Cause Black Bruising With A Small Lump On Left Sided Waist In A 5 Years Old Child?

My son is five years old and he all of a sudden has a black bruise the side of a nickel maybe a little smaller on his left side by his waist. When I feel on it, it feels like a little ball or a mosquito bite however there is no sign of any type of bit. Should I be concerned?

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
If your son has any bleeding of his gums, frequent bruising or cuts that don't stop bleeding, he should have a blood test to make sure he is clotting properly and that his blood count is normal.
From your description, an isolated insect bite or bruise usually will resolve, but topical Neosporin can help if the site is infected. I would suggest follow up with your physician if this lesion is not healing or seems infected.
