What Could Brown Or Red Blotches On Skin Be?

I ve developed brownish/reddish blotches on my forearms and torso. They flat in appearance and a couple almost look like bruises. I saw my Dr on Tuesday and while embarrassing he thought they could be from second stage syphilis. He treated me with penicillin and drew blood to verify. He called yesterday to say that I tested negative for syphilis .

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi,

It could be pityriasis versicolor which is a superficial fungal infection of the skin. I would recommend you to apply topical anti-fungal like miconazole cream on the affected areas twice daily for 2 weeks and see the response.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Asmeet Kaur Sawhney, Dermatologist
