What Could Blood Stained Vaginal Discharge In Early Pregnancy Indicate?

I am 12 weeks pregnant. I just went to the bathroom and had a very slight bloody mucus discharge in my underwear. When I wiped there was nothing on the toilet paper. Though there is a stain on my underwear from the blood. Should this be cause for concern, should I call my OB GYN? Being that it's Sunday I was trying to do research to see if it was somewhat normal, or if I should be concerned.

Hello ma'am and welcome.

Mild bleeding or red mucus is common during pregnancy and should not be a cause for concern. But seeing that you are in your first trimester, it is worth reporting to look for any factors that could cause this to be a threatened abortion (e.g. imbalance in hormones, enzymes, etc.). This is commonly encountered in many pregnancies and should not be a cause for concern, but you should report this to your doctor. Being a Sunday, one day or two will not really do you any harm as this is most probably an imbalance that can easily be corrected by your doctor.

Best wishes.
