What Could Be The Thick Transparent Material In The Eye Ball?

After surfing the internet for a while this afternoon, as well as walking my dog in a pollen infested forest (I forgot to take a Claritin so my allergy to pollen could be a contributing factor) my right eye became extremely irritated. I looked in the mirror and widened my eye, and just below my actual eyeball, there was a thick layer of transparent, jelly-like material. This is the first time this has happened, and when I tried to take it out (with washed hands, of course), it caused some discomfort. What is going on with my eye?
