What Could Be The Reason For Having Bowel Obstruction?

I had a small bowel obstruction last January for the past few days my stomach has felt very tender and distended, I have had some bowel movements but the color of the stool seems odd. When I felt this coming on I started using Milk of magnesia before bed. I have had 2 ventral hernias one of which they had to do a bowel resection because the mesh material adhered to the intestine.

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.Ratnakar and I am pleased to assist you.
The two most common causes of small bowel obstruction are hernia getting obstructed and adhesions due to abdominal/pelvic surgeries.
You have both hernias and history of surgery. So any one of the above two can be causing the obstruction.
A clinical examination and if needed a diagnostic laparoscopy may have to be done to find the cause.
I hope that answers your question.
Regards,
Dr.Ratnakar
