What Causes Wet Dreams?

my longterm boyfriend who is nearly thirty years old used to wet his bed when he was a child due to stress in his family home etc. however, it did stop when he was 16.

he has just had a very stressful week, we had to deal with lots of very stressful things. this morning he told me that for the last two nights he has been having wet dreams, he tells me that there was nothing sexual in his dreams. he also says that he has never had wet dreams at any time in his adulthood before.

can you please explain to me what this might be and if it is possible to have wet dreams with no sexual stuff attached to them? can they be somehow psychologically related to the triggers and reasons for stress that we had to deal with over the last few days?

Hello,
Welcome to healthcaremagic.com

Having wet dreams is a normal phenomenon, not to get so much worried due to same. This is called nocturnal emission. this can happen without any sexual content in dreams. This is a physiological phenomenon, which can happen to any male.
This related with physiology of semen formation. Semen is formed continuously in a males body. It comes out of body either by having sex or by masturbating. After puberty this process occurs continuously and due to above mentioned processes semen moves out of the body. At time when such sexual activities are not performed, semen may keeps on accumulating inside the body until a limit after which person may have nocturnal emissions, if sexual act is not performed.
To get rid of nocturnal emissions regular intercourse, healthy sexual practices, healthy diet, avoidance of smoking/ alcohol, regular exercices need to be done.

Thank you
