She recently went through a divorce and about 2 weeks after moving back home (with me) she started having weird symptoms, shes constantly weak, her blood pressure flucuates and her heart rate sometimes will get up to about 102. the doctors have put her on beta blockers but they dont seem to help. somedays her blood pressure is low, about 99/67 but her heart rate is up. i dont know what to do and the doctors are just puzzled, any advice will help, i am extremely scared of loosing my mom.

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I read your question and understand your concern.

Her symptoms seem to be related to anxiety. This situation, which she has been through lately is a strong argument in favor of this cause.

It is normal to have this type of heart rate and blood pressure during the day.

A raise in the heart rate may be caused by anxiety, which increases the levels of catecholamines in blood, causing tachycardia and blood pressure fluctuations.

I recommend to perform some tests like a 24 hour ECG monitoring (to exclude a possible arrhythmia), a routine blood test, kidney and liver function tests, thyroid hormone levels, blood electrolytes. I would also advise you to monitor your blood pressure.

If all the above mentioned tests result normal, I recommend you to consult her with a psychiatrist. An antidepressant and psychotherapy may be needed.

Hope to have been helpful!

Greetings! Dr. Iliri
