What Causes Watery, bloody Mucus Discharge In Pregnancy?

I am 38.4 weeks pregnant and I got a membrane sweep 2 days ago. I ve been having a lot of cramping and lower abdominal pain. Also, today I ve had a lot of watery, bloody, mucus discharge and my under wear have had to be changed 3 times because of it. Could this be my water braking? Am I in labor?

I understand your concern and will do my best to answer your question.

After your membranes are swept bloody mucus discharge can certainly happen. From what you are describing: to be honest, it is hard to tell. It is very hard to tell except by exam, if your water broke. If someone is unsure, I always invite them in to labor and delivery to get checked and make sure the bag of water is intact. We used to let people wait it out at home once their bag of water broke, knowing labor usually started on its own within a few days but the newer research led to a recommendation to keep an eye on people in the hospital once that happened.

Good luck and I hope the membrane sweeping brings you a quick painless labor soon.
