What Causes Vomiting And Diarrhea?

My husband is 63, woke up with a cold sweat Sunday night, not long afterwards he threw up HARD 5/6 times...the next day had diarrhea and ate nothing,slept all day. Tuesday dry toast n tea, chicken stock n rice, ginger ale. Tuesday night dry toast n rice. Today (this morning) soft stool with blood in it... we have a 5:00 Dr appointment this evening, should we take him to ER or wait fir his dr appointment?

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
He seems to have gastroenteritis .. caused by over eating,bacterial or viral infection.
You can wait till evening for dr's appointment .. just make sure he drinks sufficient water /ors /light diet.
But if shows signs of dehydration (dry mouth,sunken eyes,wrinkled skin ,extreme weakness/the symptoms aggravate you should shifthim to ER.
