What Causes Vomiting And Abdomen Pain In A Toddler?
Hi My 8 yr old daughter woke up with severe stomach pains and then about 4 hours later she has started throwing up and having loose bowl movements. She said that all morning her heart has felt like it is pounding in her chest even before she started throwing up and she says her legs will not stop shaking. I took her blood pressure and the first time it was 86/52 pulse 89 and the second time it was 95/67 pulse 103. I was wondering if those blood pressures were ok because that and her pulse were so different. And what about the heart pounding and the shaky legs. Any info would help. Thanks so much for your help in advance.
This is probably from acute gastro-enteritis or food poisoning. Her BP readings are normal- no need to worry. The heart pounding (palpitation) and shaky legs indicates that she is going to have fever shortly.
- Just give her Tab ondansetron 4mg twice or thrice daily to control vomiting, and ORS solution in frequent sips
- Give paracetamol also, will help both abdominal pain and fever. She will be fine in 2-3 days.
If she continues to have high fever, vomiting not getting controlled, feels very tired, don't hesitate to see your doctor as she may need antibiotics and fluid infusion.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
