What Causes Vaginal Spotting, Nausea And Diarrhea?

Hello I am a 21 year old female. I am currently on birth control mononessa. I take 3 months at a time before having a period. I just recently skipped the placebo pills and during that week I spotted heavily and the following week I begin to go back and forth between spotting and very light pink bleeding. I have been having nausea and moderate cramping in the lower abdomin. This is not normal for me at all. I also have been experiencing indigestion, and diarrhea. Is this a cause for concern? The doctors office where my PCM is at is not the easiest to make an appointment with and I don t want to make an appointment if unnecessary.

Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM
I have read and understood your concern
From your symptoms, you present two problem that may or may not be related.
-The fisrt is a gynecological problem.Possible causes of spotting, lower abdominal cramps may include: PID/STI, pregnancy, pelvic masses or side effects of pills.
-The second is a digestive disorder.Diarrhea, indigestion and lower abdominal cramps may be caused by digestive viral, bacterial or parasitic infections, food poisoning, dyspepsia...In this case, a stool exam/culture will be very useful.
I will end by saying your symptoms should not be taken lightly.Examination by your Doctor with some tests like stool exam, STI work-up, pregnancy test and a pelvic ultrasound will be good.
In the meantime, i will advise you try the following:
*Take oral rehydration salt to replenish fluid and ions losses in diarrhea
*If diarrhea too frequent, an anti-diarrheal like imodium may be taken.
The rest of the treatment will be taken care of by your Doctor.
Hope this will help.
Wish you good health. You may write back if more concerns.
Best regards
