What Causes Vaginal Spotting Inspite Of Being On Birth Control Pills?

Hello so I just started birth control October 12th and my partner and I first had intercourse a month and a couple days after the full month of me taking my prescription. I usually take my pill everyday around 3:00 p.m. But last Sunday, November 16th, I took it around 9 p.m. and the day after or 2 days after I started experiencing spotting. Also, 3 days ago I took my pill at around 7 or 8 p.m. instead of at 3 p.m. and the spotting is still slightly happening. What is the explanation of this? It is worrying me.

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

I hope you are using 21 days hormone tablets which are called combined oral contraceptive pills, they contain low doses of estrogen and little more dose of progesterone. They act by preventing ovulation and also some other minor mechanisms...they are purely hormonal.
Progesterone is the main component, usually you will get periods when you complete 21 tablets .When you stop it there will be sudden fall of hormone levels which leads to with drawl bleeding ,so, you will get periods.
When you stop it or is there any delay in taking the tablet same process will occur and leads to spotting which is a normal mechanism...
So, nothing to worry about it you can continue the tablets .Even if you miss 1 tab you can take 2 doses next day to compensate hormone levels.
If you still have any doubts consult a gynic ,get an ultrasound to rule out other conditions(fibroids , pcod or endometrail hyperplasia) ,which are common causes of irregular periods.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
thank you
