What Causes Vaginal Spotting During Early Pregnancy?
Hi started taking prenatal vitamins 3 days ago spotted the first two days and bleeding lightly on the third day. I am seven weeks pregnant, this is my first pregnancy at age 44. Not sure what s happening, before taking them, except for tender breasts I didn t even feel pregnant.
Any bleeding even in the form of spotting or altered blood from the vagina during early pregnancy is termed a s threatened abortion unless proved otherwise.
It is likely that following oral stimulation and uterine contraction during orgasm there may have been some placental separation which caused the bleeding.
It is important that you should get a ultrasound pelvis especially a transvaginal ultrasound to rule out any placental separation and retroplacental clot formation and an ongoing bleed and also to check foetal well being.
If the fetal heart rate is normal then you would be advised to be on complete bed rest till bleeding stops and should be started on progesterone support till next 4 weeks.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
