This is my second iud mirena and I have had it for about 8 months now. I have been bleeding constantly and my nipples become very sore every few weeks. I also notice an fishy odor when I stop bleeding. My sex drive has dropped drastically. Is this all normal?
Most women have irregular spotting in the beginning after getting a Mirena IUD, but it usually gets better over time. However, the blood should not have an odor and for that reason you should probably be seen by an OBGYN health provider to make sure you do not have a vaginal infection.
Regarding your nipple soreness, the Mirena does not stop you from ovulating, so you will get breast tenderness and soreness in the week or so after you ovulate. However, again, it is not normal to have constant bleeding by this point, so a visit to your provider to make sure the IUD in in its' proper place would also be a good idea.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that this advice was helpful.
Best wishes,
Dr. Brown
