What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After Intercourse?

I had a partial hysterectomy on January 16th, so it s been 5 weeks. I am supposed to have my post op this week. My husband and I some drinks last night & in the moment, we had sex. We noticed afterward, that my husband had some blood on him. I also saw a little bit of blood in the toilet when I went to the bathroom right after & first thing this morning. There hasn t been anymore blood since. Should I be alarmed? I plan on calling my doctor in the morning, but do I need to have her paged?

Hi! Your concern is understandable. Had you mentioned the indication for your hysterectomy, it would have been better.
During hysterectomy, if it is done through the abdominal route, there are two incisions. One is on the abdomen which you can see. The other incision is right at the top of vagina. Both are sutured.
Some times, the incision inside the vagina develops a granular tissue or sometimes it gets infected also. In such cases, bleeding can take place. Infected scar also will give rise to foul smelling discharge also.
In your case, it seems, small amount of blood has come from this scar at the top of the vagina. If the bleeding is not continuing, the things are not serious, still you should report this to your Gynaecologist who has performed hysterectomy on you. We have seen alarming bleeding from vaginal scars occasionally.
I hope you got the answer for your query.
