What Causes Unbearable Sore Throat Pain For 4 Days?

I have had unbearable sore throat pain for 4 days/nights. I was tested for strep and it was negative. The pain is so bad at night that I cannot even sleep. I have been taking Advil and using numbing spray and throat lozenges. I have gargles with salt water and there is no relief. What could be wrong?

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

Regarding your query for unbearable throat pain and fever for last 4 days, not responding to general conservative treatment is compelling us to suspect about acute tonsillopharyngitis with Quincy or Retropharyngeal abscess.

Above possibilities may be rule out by examinatiomn by ENT doctor and they may be manage also accordingly. So please consult your ENT doctor. Till you are waiting for specialist you may take-

1- Tab paracetamol.

2- Warm saline gargling.

3- Cough syrup having chlorpheniramine and codine.

Probably above answers your query.
