What Causes Tingling In The Calves While Suffering From Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Hello, I have long-standing RA (50-plus years) I have long history of use of steroids, biologics, you name it. I am doing ok for now, not too bad sed rate, always high RA factor. Past month I have had tingling in both calfs, some foot pain, have had bakers cysts over the years, knee swelling, etc. The numbness I have comes and goes. Is this a indicator of vasculeritis from RA or should I check for other vascular problems. I have a rheumatologist. He feels the tingling, cold sensation, etc. is arthritis-related. Just want another opinion, and, I thank you. I also have autoimmune hepatitis, now doing well on Cellcept. Thanks again.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to rheumatoid arthritis. I recommend using muscle relaxant such as Baclofen three times a day. I also suggest using a magnesium supplement daily and cold compresses at the pain area.

If the symptoms continue, I suggest to consult a rheumatologist for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
