Welcome to HCM,
Generally,
tingling is associated with B12 deficiency or neuropathy from
diabetes.
Normal, or definition thereof, might be the issue. There’s considerable disagreement about normal levels of B-12. Most labs test B-12 levels between 200 pg/ml (picograms per milliliter) and 800 pg/ml. Someone at 250 pg/ml would be classified as normal, but symptoms can start appearing at 350 pg/ml. In Japan, normal B-12 was recently raised to 500 pg/ml and higher. We’ll see this type of erroneous overreliance on “normals” in other frequently missed diagnoses, like
hypothyroidism, vitamin D deficiency, gluten intolerance,
adrenal fatigue. Long-term B12 deficiency can cause permanent neuropathy. Too much B12 can cause symptoms.
It sounds like something is not right with the dosage or "normals" or that something else completely different is causing these symptoms.
There are other medications that can cause tingling as a side-effect. Perhaps you should
seek a second opinion.
Please feel free to write back after the doctor's visit if you have more questions. Regards, Kathy Shattler, MS,RDN
