What Causes Throbbing Pain In Arm After PICC Line Insertion?
I have a PICC line in my arm on the inside midway between my elbow and armpit. I am feeling a slow throbbing pain on the outside of my arm, across from the place where the catheter goes in. Should I be worried about this? There is no swelling, no pain, and no redness at the insertion site.
As per my clinical experience, there can be various possibilities with throbbing pain in the arm after PICC line insertion as: - Partial blockage through clots or thrombosis - Positional alterations in the fluid flow upstream - Systemic issues pausing symptoms as hypercoagulability - Risk factors as smoking, hypercholesterolemia or others
Though there is no redness or pain, it is best recommended to consult your critical care specialist in this ragard and get checked immediately before any side effects develop.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
